Enlighten whitens your teeth gently and gradually over a period of one to two weeks, so the change looks like your teeth on a good day rather than an obvious dental treatment.

A wedding, a milestone birthday, a set of photographs you will keep — these are the reasons most of our whitening patients give. Because the treatment runs over roughly two weeks, it is worth starting a month or so before the date so there is time for your final top-up appointment.
Three steps to a whiter smile
Step one — your custom trays
We take moulds of your teeth and have thin, close-fitting whitening trays made for you. You will also be given a specially formulated toothpaste which manages sensitivity through the treatment.
Step two — whiten while you sleep
You wear the trays overnight for a minimum of two weeks — fourteen nights. Because the gel works slowly at a low concentration while you sleep, the process is far more comfortable than older, faster systems.
Step three — your final appointment
We check the shade you have reached and finish with a complimentary accelerated top-up treatment in the practice.
What Enlighten can and cannot do
- Teeth can lighten by up to 16 shades
- Results can last indefinitely with some very simple maintenance — wearing the trays for one night every other month
- Whitening does not change the colour of crowns, veneers or white fillings; existing restorations may need replacing afterwards so they still match
- Whitening treats the colour of the tooth, not its shape or position — if teeth are crooked as well as dark, ask us about combining whitening with Invisalign

How much is Enlighten whitening at Matley Dental?
Whitening is £495, which includes your custom trays, the Enlighten gel and toothpaste, and the final in-practice top-up appointment.
How long does teeth whitening take?
Two weeks of overnight wear, plus a final appointment at the practice. Allow around a month from first appointment to finished result.
Will whitening make my teeth sensitive?
Some people notice mild sensitivity during treatment. The specially formulated toothpaste supplied with the kit is designed to manage it, and any sensitivity settles once treatment finishes.
Will it whiten my crowns and fillings?
No. Whitening gel does not lighten porcelain or composite. If you have crowns, veneers or white fillings in your smile line, we will discuss replacing them after whitening so the shades match.
How long do the results last?
Indefinitely, with maintenance — wearing your trays for one night every other month is usually enough to hold the shade.
