What are bridges?
Bridges are used to fill gaps and replace missing teeth. These are used as a very viable alternative to dentures, provided the teeth on either side of the gap are strong enough to support them.
A bridge attaches to those adjacent teeth and, like a crown, is made from porcelain and matched to the colour of your existing teeth. The result looks natural and, unlike a denture, stays put — there is nothing to take out at night.
Why replace a missing tooth at all?
A gap is not only cosmetic. Neighbouring teeth tend to drift and tilt into the space and the opposing tooth can over-erupt, which changes your bite over time and makes cleaning harder. Filling the gap keeps the rest of your teeth where they belong.
Types of bridge
There are many different types of bridges; ask your dentist for more information. Which one suits you depends on the size of the gap, the health of the supporting teeth and how much tooth structure we want to preserve. We will show you the options and the costs at your consultation.

How much is a dental bridge?
Bridges are £650 per unit. The number of units depends on the size of the gap and the supporting teeth, and you will be given a fully costed plan first.
Bridge or denture — which is better?
A bridge is fixed and generally feels more like your own teeth, but needs healthy teeth either side of the gap. A denture is removable and suits larger gaps or where the neighbouring teeth cannot take the load.
How do I clean a bridge?
As normal, plus cleaning underneath the false tooth with special floss or an interdental brush. We will show you how at the fit appointment.
